It's about as realistic as superpowers get which was a nice change. Like the way Quinn can become "invisible" but not really, he can just make you think you don't see him but it's not like he vanishes.

Their gifts are subtle and well thought out so that they aren't like every other super power out there. It was very believable and not over the top. I also really liked the way their powers work.

You really want them to be together, but it's early in the series and Allie has so much going on with all the changes she's been through, it makes sense that she wants something normal at this point in her story. I like how they are equals in power and that they are so powerful not everyone is comfortable around them, which makes them drawn to each other. I thought the relationship between Allie and Aidan was really unique. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a book like this and I'm so excited to have a new favorite series! Can't wait for the prequel this summer and I hope book two won't be too long after that! Emerge is a very unique powerful story all on its own, but it shares a similar urban vibe that Mortal Instruments had, and really great world building too. It reminds me of The Mortal Instruments books which I loved, but it's not a copycat. At a glance it just seemed different, bold and colorful and I'm happy to say the story is as good as the cover promises. I totally judge a book by its cover so this one sucked me in right away. A dangerous world where she will have to fight tooth and nail to defend the power and freedom that is her birthright. As Allie struggles to maintain her tenuous grasp on the power that threatens to overwhelm her, she worries she will lose herself in this strange new world. She has always been different, but even among her extraordinary friends, she and Aidan are special. She struggles in ignorance, uncertain of what is real and what isn’t. Finally, Allie has a real shot at normal and rides that high right up to her sixteenth birthday when she wakes in agony-an experience Aidan insists they have all faced. He smiles and welcomes her into his circle of friends, who aren’t exactly comfortable with Allie, but they seem to get her in a way most people don’t. When an unexpected move to Kelleys Island brings Aidan McBrien crashing into her life, Allie is thrown by his reaction.

She has no cause to believe that equation works differently for her, but there has to be a reason the world treats her like a pariah. Congratulations to Emerge for placing as a finalist in the 2015 International Book Awards!!Īllie Carmichael has always believed life is simple.
